Schiffer Publishing Craft Book

Publisher’s Description

In just five simple steps, children can make a variety of whimsical objects such as race cars, a rabbit, a puzzle, and a marble run out of wood. Fourteen projects make clever use of commonly available materials and simple tools, turning clothespins, corkboard, and wooden blocks into lasting crafts and toys. Children five years and older will develop fine motor skills, feed their creativity, and be encouraged to find new uses for everyday objects.

My Thoughts

This is the third book in the 5-Step Handicrafts series that I’ve read. I’ve been very impressed by the wonderful pictures, easy instructions, and crafts that kids (and in some cases adults) will be excited to make.

This book didn’t disappoint me. The 14 crafts are child-friendly and perfect objects to interest the little woodworker.

Schiffer Publishing

In an attempt to choose a favorite craft and describe it in this post, I realized I couldn’t pick just one. So here is only one of my favorite crafts:

The Race Car needs these materials:

  • A clothespin
  • Laminated corkboard
  • Red, black, and white paints
  • PVA adhesive glue
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush

The first of five steps is to dismantle the clothespin and glue the two halves side by side, forming the car’s body. And four steps more will produce four wheels and a race car number. And most importantly a cute little car.

Like the other books in this series, the last page has three headings at the tops.

  • Can I do it?
  • What will I need?
  • Is there anything else I should know?

And at the bottom of the page, all 14 crafts are listed in the order of difficulty. There are four levels.

My thanks to Schiffer Publishing for a copy of this book. My #bookreview is strictly my opinion.

What I Liked Most

I love the simplicity of the crafts and that they are perfect for the older child to do alone. I can also imagine the memories that can be created between adults and children working together on these crafts.
