Schiffer Craft Book for Kids

Publisher’s Description

In just five simple steps, children can make fun, memorable crafts out of plastic, including an octopus, a hairy bug, a puppet theater, and gifts for friends. Fourteen projects make clever use of plastic items we find in our everyday lives, such as cups, plates, hair curlers, and drinking straws. Children five years and older will develop fine motor skills, feed their creativity, and be encouraged to find new uses for items we often see as disposable.

My Thoughts

This is the second book that I’ve reviewed in the 5-Step Handicrafts For Kids series. And like the last book, I’m quite impressed.

Each craft has several bright pictures to go along with the 5 numbered instructions. Instructions that usually have no more than two sentences.

You might wonder if crafts this simple are worth doing. Like the Clay: 5-Step Handicrafts book that I reviewed, each craft is definitely something fun for kids. This book contains 14 kid-friendly creations:

Each craft begins by listing the materials that will be needed. In nearly all of the cases, the things can be found around the house. Or if you need something, it might be as small as a plastic clothespin or a green plastic cup.

The last page of the book has a few informational headings: Can I do it?, What will I need?, and Is there anything else I should know? The bottom of the page lists the crafts in the book. They are divided into four categories from the easiest to the hardest.

My thanks to Schiffer Publishing for a copy of this book. My #bookreview is strictly my opinion.

What Concerned Me

Nothing.

What I Liked Most

So many craft books require objects that may not be easy to obtain. Not so with this book. Most materials are easily accessible and the crafts are simple and very child-friendly. The plastic objects are light enough to cut with scissors.
