Join the Hunt for the Truth–and a Traitor

What’s It All About?

When FBI agent Jack Shannon arrives in Corpus Christi, Texas, he is focused on one thing: find the man who has been selling encrypted government secrets to the Chinese. But when a senator is shot during a hunting trip and the woman he was with is abducted, Jack agrees to join the search–especially when he discovers that the kidnapping victim is Aubrey Grayson, a woman he was once in love with.

As the search continues, it becomes clear the senator may not have been the intended victim–and Aubrey may be connected to the other case Jack is supposed to be working on. Can Jack untangle the knots before it’s too late? And when he learns the truth, will it be too painful to get past?

My Thoughts

This book immediately caught my attention when I saw the beautiful cover. And then when I read the blurb I was equally happy. What with an FBI agent, a senator who is shot, and an abduction, it was sure to be a fast-paced pageturner. But I’m sorry to say, for me, it wasn’t all that I had hoped for.

Though it started out fine, I soon discovered that the more I read, the harder it was to retain interest. Now that’s not saying it was a bad plot. But it wasn’t working for me. So I tried to analyze what was bothering me. I came to the realization that too much dialog was weighing the story down. In fact, I felt the dialog was the only thing moving the story.

That being said, I believe this is still a book that is worth checking out. My concerns possibly might be unique to me.

What Concerned Me

As the story progressed the dialog started distracting me. It no longer blended in, but rather seemed to become the story.

As I started chapter seven, I realized it was becoming harder and harder to enjoy the book.

What I Liked Best

Up to about the seventh chapter, the characters felt interesting and I was engaged in the story. I especially enjoyed the relationship between Aubrey and the senator.

As far as the plot, it was fine, though now I’m going to go into gray space between my Cons and Pros. The plot was interesting yet I didn’t feel it was executed to its benefit. At times the excitement and urgency didn’t quite come through.

The spiritual thread of forgiveness was also quite touching and inspirational.

I Recommend This To

anyone who loves the genre and isn’t disturbed by conversation being what carries a good part of the story.

My Rating
