Book Description

Perhaps, Pets are more than best friends, they are a huge responsibility. Lemar and her Magical Pets teach simple facts about pets and give children a glimpse of what it means to own a pet; that pets require lots of care and are hard work. Lemar finds a gemstone in her backyard. She will use it to ask for a pet. Little did she know that the gemstone will unfold the truth of owning a pet. With a little bit of time left to try over and over again, will magic work for her after all? This children’s book is full of unexpected magical Outcomes! Children will love to read it over and over again.

My Thoughts

Though we’re all familiar with the saying, Don’t judge a book by its cover, that’s exactly what I did. I fell in love with the title and the cover.pets picture book

And if I’m not mistaken children will do the same thing. They will be drawn to the cover and pulled quickly into a fun story.  Lemar, like many boys and girls, can’t wait for her birthday.  And what she’d really love to receive is a pet. The night before her birthday, as she’s falling asleep, she remembers the gemstone that she dug up in the garden. Is it possible the gem has magical qualities? Maybe she can wish for a pet. And if she does, what will she get?

Concerns

Probably a quick once-over by a proofreader would have corrected tense and grammar concerns. Also, I would have been happier if it had been obvious that an animal, specifically a pet, would require care. I discovered this was the takeaway only by reading the last page.

Conclusion

Kids will love the bright colors and seeing what animal appears each time Lemar rubs the gemstone.

Was the plot complete? Not really. But kids will be so anxious to see if Lemar gets a pet for her birthday, that the pages will fly regardless of a complete plot.
