You Choose:

Law or Justice

ABOUT THE BOOK

From #1 bestselling author Lisa Scottoline comes a pulse-pounding new novel.

Your family has been attacked, never again to be the same.
Now you have to choose between law…and justice.

Jason Bennett is a suburban dad who owns a court-reporting business, but one night, his life takes a horrific turn. He is driving his family home after his daughter’s field hockey game when a pickup truck begins tailgating them, on a dark stretch of road. Suddenly two men jump from the pickup and pull guns on Jason, demanding the car. A horrific flash of violence changes his life forever.

Later that awful night, Jason and his family receive a visit from the FBI. The agents tell them that the carjackers were members of a dangerous drug-trafficking organization – and now Jason and his family are in their crosshairs.

The agents advise the Bennetts to enter the witness protection program right away, and they have no choice but to agree. But WITSEC was designed to protect criminal informants, not law-abiding families. Taken from all they know, trapped in an unfamiliar life, the Bennetts begin to fall apart at the seams. Then Jason learns a shocking truth and realizes that he has to take matters into his own hands.

Sometimes justice is a one-man show.

I loved the concept of this book: A car hijacking that quickly took off into the wild blue yonder of possibilities and imagination.

Scottoline drove this story from one lane to another, and down a side road that ended up on a freeway. If you could imagine it, it happened to this poor family.

Did I mention that the car hijacking went awry? At least it certainly seemed that way since what happened to the hijackers felt pretty unusual. And what happened that evening will eventually lead to the pages of the book flying.

The characters, for the most part, felt quite believable. And the story started just right. I was hooked quickly.

My Concerns

I did have to suspend disbelief for a good deal of the story, though to be honest I lead a very sheltered life, so who knows? Maybe things like this aren’t that uncommon?

After a quick start, Scottoline had the next third or so of the story parked in neutral since not a lot took place.

Final Thoughts

This is one that will most likely be a go for most Scottoline and mystery/action thriller readers.

While there is a chance you too will have to suspend disbelief in a few places, I definitely recommend it.

Thank you #NetGalley, #Penguingroupputnam, and  #LisaScottoline for this ARC. I was free to express my opinion.
