Author Interview

What types of books did you read when you were young?

I grew up reading The Baby Sitter’s Club and Sweet Valley High books when I was a kid. After that, I switched to VC Andrews, and Lois Lowry. I usually went for romances, but every once in a while, I chose something with a little more action in them.

What do you hope will be the takeaway from this book?

I’ve really put my characters through some really horrible experiences and I just hope that the reader comes away from The Lies That Shatter feeling like I gave Alec and Sadie the ending they deserved. There is a sense of satisfaction I often get when I read an ending to a story that just makes all the pain worth it. That’s what I want for my readers to feel.

Do the two books in this series need to be read together or are they stand-alone books?

They definitely need to be read together. The first book, The Truth Keeps Silent, ends in a slight cliff hanger, and The Lies That Shatter is a continuation of that story.

Will there be more books in this series?

My next book will be within the same world, but will be completely stand-alone from the first two. Sadie and Alec will appear as side characters, but you won’t have to know their story at all. I have at least two romantic suspense planned and then I may dabble in some contemporary romances with a few of the other side characters.

Who is your favorite character in this book? Why?

Well, of course my fav will always be Alec because who doesn’t love a smexy Scot with killer abs. Although he has moments of being utterly broken in this book, he is so protective of Sadie. Once he gets past some of the betrayal, he isn’t afraid to show her how much he loves her every chance he gets.

What’s something that most people don’t know about you?

I was an elementary school teacher for 14 years before I left teaching to work in real estate. I stopped reading for my own pleasure while I was a teacher because I always had to study for new certifications or I wanted to read the YA books my kids were getting into. So, I read things like The Lightning Thief and Esperanza Rising (which are both excellent, BTW).

After I left teaching, I started reading for myself and it triggered my imagination into writing books of my own. I truly never thought I would revisit my dream of becoming an author, but this has been an amazing experience.

What book are you reading now?

I just finished reading both, Here With Me and There With You, by Samantha Young, which were excellent and I’m excited to read the next in the series. I also am finally diving into Hate, by Tate James.
