My Thoughts

Two things immediately caught my attention when I picked this book up, the cute cover and the sturdy construction. At the time of this review, it is only offered as a hardback. But in this case I think it will be read enough times that you’ll no doubt want the nicer book anyway, so there’s no need for another choice.

Molly is worried about moving and leaving behind her best friend and her familiar surroundings. If only she’d had a book like The Adventures of Molly & Ollie: Moving Day she might have felt a bit more comfortable.

It  doesn’t take long after arriving at her new house for her to head upstairs to her new bedroom. The room with special purple lettering on the door: Molly. There she finds the labeled boxes from her old home and some furniture. Basically a pretty bare room.

But when an Owl lands on her windowsill he helps Molly see her move a little differently.

My Concerns

As I started reading I became aware that the word count was more than most picture books. But I was pleased to find that it didn’t feel repetitive or in any way too lengthy to lose a child’s attention.

My Final Thoughts

I would recommend this as a fun, helpful book for any child facing a move, elementary school teachers of younger grades, and librarians. This book is perfect for gift giving also.

My thanks to iRead Book Tours, the publisher, and author for the opportunity to read and review this book. This review was not influenced by the gifted book.

Meet the Author and Interview

The Adventures of Molly & Ollie: Moving Day was inspired by Beale’s own experiences as a young child. Her father’s occupation required that her family move across the country every two years. Beale’s childhood was filled with adventures that captured her imagination in each new home. She continued her passion for adventure while raising her two daughters and working as a costume designer for local theaters. Now she is channeling her sense of fun and her youthful spirit into her children’s stories. Beale is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). The Adventures of Molly & Ollie: Moving Day, a Mom’s Choice Award winner, is the first book in the Molly & Ollie
series.

  1. When did you start writing?

I wrote some as a kid, mostly for school assignments. My favorite story was about a banana in a banana split. Our assignment was on the import of goods. My story was about a banana who had been eaten as part of a banana split. The banana went on to tell the other food that had been eaten his life story about how he got to be part of the banana split.

  1. Have you always wanted to be a writer?

I never had an outward thought of wanting to be a writer, but I think deep inside I did. When I watched the TV show Murder She Wrote, I was always intrigued by the scenes of Jessica Fletcher writing and wondered how she came up with the ideas for her books.

  1. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

In addition to Moving Day, I have recently finished the first draft of the next book in the series, And I have 3 more in various stages of completion. It is hard to pick a favorite, because each one is special in its own way.  It would be like picking a favorite child.

  1. Where do you get your inspiration?

I find inspiration all around me. I find a lot of inspiration in nature, while on my daily walks. A tree that looks like an umbrella, or a leaf gliding across a water puddle in a slight breeze. These things spark ideas for all kinds of possibilities in future tales. I keep a running list of ideas and take a lot of pictures!

  1. What was your dream job when you were younger?

My dream job was to be a movie actress; to entertain others. I have not been in a movie, but I have performed in several local theatre productions. I enjoy the spotlight, but my favorite thing is seeing the joy on the faces of my audience
