– Charlie Just Wants To Go To Sleep –
Like many, Charlie has a set routine when getting ready for bed. Among other things, he has to place a glass of water on his bedside table, put slippers on the rug, and hug his teddy bear.
With his nightly routine completed Charlie promptly falls asleep only to awake when he hears a loud tap, Tap, TAP! He patiently investigates. He finds Bird outside beating on trees with a hammer! Charlie says,
“Pardon me, Bird, do you know what time it is?”
As luck would have it there’s a clock on a neighboring tree. Bird lets Charlie know that he thought he was alone outside. But, not wishing to bother Charlie, Bird flies away.
This same problem happens over and over to Charlie. He prepares for bed (remember, set routine) then tries to sleep, then wakes to loud noises.
But what might seem a bit repetitive has humor involved for observant readers.
My Thoughts
What Concerned Me:Â Nothing
What I Liked Most:Â This is a very cute story that would make a wonderful read-aloud for classrooms. The illustrations call for a close look or you might miss lots of the humor. Thumbs up for a very original story.
