Rocky Mountain Courage Series, Book 2

Publisher’s Description

This cold case has suddenly warmed up.
She only hopes they won’t get burned.

Criminal psychologist Erin Larson’s dreams of a successful career come to a screeching halt when she nearly loses her life in a boating accident and then learns that her mother tried to commit suicide. She leaves her job to care for her mother in Montana. At least there Erin is able to produce her podcast, which focuses on solving missing persons cold cases.

Nathan Campbell’s father was investigating such a case when he was shot, and now Nathan needs to enlist Erin’s help to solve the case. She’s certainly good at what she does. The only problem? She’s his ex.

As the two dig deeper, it becomes clear that they, too, are being targeted–and the answers to their questions are buried deep within the past Erin struggles to explain and longs to forget.

My Thoughts

This is a series I’m enjoying. And though this is a standalone book, I highly recommend starting with the first one, Present Danger. Otherwise, it might take just a little bit to pick up on what is happening.

Erin Larson is a criminal psychologist with the state of Washington who hosts a cold case crime podcast. That alone caught my attention, since I’m a fan of forensics and cold cases, and I guess crime podcasts too, though I watch more of that on TV than listen to it. Since Erin can host her podcast from Montana, she heads there to take care of her mom who is ill.

Then we have Nathan Campbell who has returned to Montana, his hometown, to help his estranged father, a homicide investigator, with a cold case that he’s investigating.

The two main characters get together when Nathan enlists Erin’s help. And their time together might even bring a new understanding to their relationship, or will they each have too much baggage?  But, most importantly, will they both become targets by working together?

This book was faster-paced than most, keeping me guessing and turning pages.

My Concerns

While I like Christian fiction because of the clean stories, no over-the-top sex scenes or vocabulary, too many references to prayers, etc. can cause a book to feel a little unnatural. This was on the edge, but just fine.

Final Thoughts

The first book in this series was just okay, see my review, while this one really caught my attention. But I would recommend you start with the first book as background if you plan to read this series. And I definitely plan to read Critical Alliance, the third book in this series.

My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book. This review is my opinion and there were no stipulations as to what I could and couldn’t post.
