My Thoughts

This is a simple, fun book that little ones are sure to keep asking for. And since it appears to be a series, if you get tired of reading it, hey, there are more books about this boy and dog!

Rambee Boo is a cute little dog who is headed on vacation with his family. The family has packed everything they’ll need for the trip and so has Rambee Boo. I’m sure he’s counting on his family to pack his food. So he grabs his favorite toy. A sock.

As we follow the family on their various activities, which for the most part consists of Rambee Boo and his boy Rock, the sock is misplaced several times. Kids will begin to wonder in this rhyming story if Rambee Boo is going to come home without his favorite toy.

My Concerns

Though I now know the reasoning behind Rambee Boo’s name and Rock’s (see Q & A below), I can’t say I’m a fan of the names being coupled together: Rambee Boo and Rock. (Small concern, and I certainly understand the reasoning behind it.)

Final Thoughts

This is a series that I can see kids loving. The illustrations by Frances Rose Español add considerably to the simple text and story. The pictures are bright, creative, and entertaining.

I give this as a thumbs-up for putting smiles on little faces.

My thanks to the author and iRead Book Tours for a copy of the book and the ability to freely post my opinion.

Meet the Author and Interview

I began writing THE RAMBEE BOO SERIES after we added a fur baby to our
family, during the Covid-19 pandemic quarantine. The characters in the series are based off my youngest son Rocky (aka Rock), and our rambunctious puppy Rambo (aka Rambee Boo). Whenever there’s trouble, these two are usually at the center of it! I graduated from West Windsor-Plainsboro High school in 2000 and went on to get my B.A. from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. I currently live in New Jersey with my husband, my three children and of course…my Rambee Boo! I’ve always
had a great love for children’s books and started collecting them in college. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to write my own series to add to our collection. I hope these books will continue to grow and foster children’s love for reading. I can only hope that my readers enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them!

Interview

  1. How long have you been writing?

I started writing in the Spring of 2020 after we added a new puppy to our family. I’ve always loved children’s books and have been collecting them since college. After we adopted Rambee Boo (Rambo), I saw a sweet relationship form between my youngest son Rocky and Rambee Boo. As I searched for realistic fiction picture books to read to Rocky about other children and their pets, I realized there weren’t many books to choose from. So…I decided to write my own!

  1. Where do you get inspiration for your stories?

My inspiration for each story generally comes from my children and events going on in their lives. Sometimes it’s from a conversation they are having, or a problem they are facing. Other times it’s something they are looking forward to or how they are reacting to a certain situation.

  1. There are so many books out there about dogs. What makes your book different?

The Rambee Boo Series is different than most puppy books for a number of reasons. First, they are written in realistic fiction, so Rambee Boo will never do anything that a real puppy wouldn’t do. He’s sweet and lovable because he’s a puppy. He doesn’t have any superpowers, and this makes him relatable to children and their own pets. He’s Rock’s best friend and comfort pup.  Secondly, The Rambee Boo Series focuses on the relationship between Rock and Rambee as they navigate through early social situations and emotions. The social and developmental situations they face, are all things that children in the 3-7 age range can resonate with; patience, responsibility, problem solving, anxiety associated with new experiences, and teamwork. Having our characters be realistic and relatable allows children to form deeper character-reader relationships.

  1. In today’s tech savvy world, most writers use a computer or laptop. Have you ever written parts of your book on paper?

Yes, I write on everything. I guess you can say I’m old school in that sense. I still like to write on paper so I jot down notes on everything from napkins and post-its, to the back of bills or any papers I can find laying around. When it comes to writing my drafts, I use my computer or laptop because it’s easier to make changes.

  1. What is your next project?

I have a lot more Rambee Boo stories in the works. There are 2 more releases set for this year. I’m also working on a coloring book which will be released later this year. Next year, I’m planning on releasing at least 2 more books, and 2-3 books each year following that. Another project I’m currently working on is manufacturing Sock, so children can have their very own comfort sock like Rambee Boo has. Comfort Sock will first be offered to companies who wish to donate it to children’s hospitals, play therapy programs and child life programs. I can only hope that Sock will bring comfort to children the way it does to Rambee Boo!
