If You Like Romance, Give This Series A Try

Synopsis From Amazon

An alpha among the wolves of Wall Street, Kennedy Dawson rose to the top of the pack by striking the right contracts at the right times. But there’s one deal that’s been giving him a run for his money – a pact to never again let his assistant, Kate, get under his skin. She may be smart, gorgeous, and sharp as a whip, but she’s definitely off-limits.

Kate Henley isn’t a banker, but she knows a thing or two about risk management – specifically, about managing her attraction to her smolderingly sexy boss. She already fell once, and Kennedy showed no sign of paying a return on her investment. So when Kennedy’s brother starts pursuing her, Kate figures she has the best of both worlds. Jack is charming, rich, very attentive, and the spitting image of his older brother.

My Thoughts

I thought I’d like to review another genre, so I picked up a couple of romances. Uggh. Both were poorly written and unimaginative. Luckily, I’m one of those people who can easily close a book that doesn’t work for me. I’m of the opinion that there are lots of other books out there calling my name.

Surprise! While on my Instagram account I saw a review of Hugh Deal. Since it was highly recommended I downloaded the audio from my local library. Unfortunately, at the time, I had no idea that this was the third and final book in the series. Fortunately,  I had no trouble jumping right into the story and being able to feel familiar with the characters.

Unlike the earlier not-so-great romances that I’d started, this story held my attention. It felt lighthearted and fun. I enjoyed the writing style but I couldn’t help wishing that I had started with the first book. I would highly recommend reading the series in order, though as I said it isn’t necessary.

What Concerned Me

I thought some readers might want to know that upfront that there are a few, short descriptive sex scenes.

What I Liked Most

I will probably head to my library’s website to request another of Lauren Layne’s audiobooks. Or for that matter, any type of book. Her writing was interesting and kept me turning pages.

About The Author

LAUREN LAYNE

I’m living my dream life in New York City as a full-time author of modern love stories, wife to my high school sweetheart, and Pomeranian-parent.

I prefer stilettos over flats, can never resist a romance with “duke” in the title, own way too many black turtlenecks, and think everything tastes better out of a fancy glass—especially champagne.

I’ve wanted to be an author since I first learned to read, and I’ve wanted to write romance specifically since I first discovered the butterflies in my stomach brought on by happily-ever-after.

With 30+ published novels and over a million books sold, I know for a fact that daydreams do come true, with a little bit of planning, and a whole lot of hustle.
