Book Description
With her court date set for her divorce and her plans with the younger man in the rearview mirror, Kassie O’Callaghan shifts attention to reviving her stalled career. But things get complicated when she unexpectedly rendezvous with her former lover in Paris. After a chance meeting there with a colleague and a stroll along Pont Neuf, Kassie receives two compelling proposals. Can she accept them both?
But Kassie’s decision process screeches to a halt when her soon-to-be ex-husband has a heart attack, forcing her to fly home to Boston. There, she confronts his conniving and deceitful fiancée—a woman who wants not just a ring on her finger but everything that belongs to Kassie. In the ensuing battle to protect what’s legally and rightfully hers, Kassie discovers that sometimes it’s what’s not true that can set you free.
Though a standalone novel, What’s Not True is the sequel to What’s Not Said (September 15, 2020).
This is the sequel to What’s Not Said, the award-winning first book in this series. Though it’s not imperative that you start with the first book in the series, I highly recommend it. The backstory is woven throughout the second book, but for me, it wouldn’t be quite enough. And just think, you won’t have to wait months for the sequel if you start with the first book.
While I wasn’t sure the first book ended on a believable note, I can tell you the second book picked right up and I was all good with everything. The characters include Kassie, a woman in her fifties who is dating a much younger man. Kassie’s soon to be ex-husband is dating . . . readers, you may need a pencil and paper and genealogy chart. Am I kidding? Possibly. These are two books you really need to read together.
I liked the first book, but I have to say that something about this book, What’s Not True, pulled me deeper into the characters’ personalities and emotions. And I hear there’s a third book in the works! I will definitely be in line to read it.
What’s Not True has got a soap opera feel to it, for sure. But who doesn’t want to boo the evil and cheer the good in a soap opera? Yep. Just what I thought. We can’t wait for the bad guy to get his comeuppance. And the good guys to win, if only briefly.
This has to be one of the craziest reviews I’ve ever written, but I don’t want to spoil the tangled web that makes up this fun, well-written story by sharing too much. So, I’m going to say that the book is full of drama. It will quickly suck you in and not let you go until the last page.
The self-discovery, the romance, the character interactions all work together to create a series that you won’t want to stop reading.
My thanks to iRead Tours and the author for a copy of this book and the ability to post my honest opinion.

“Taylor’s dialogue is snappy and contemporary . . . A witty and often amusing marriage drama.”
―Kirkus Reviews
What’s Not Said is a story about Kassie O’Callaghan, a middle-aged woman on a mission to divorce her emotionally abusive husband and start a new life with a younger man she met while on a solo vacation in Venice. When she learns her husband has chronic kidney disease, her plans collapse until she pokes around his pajama drawer and discovers his illness is the least of his deceits.
Then again, Kassie is no angel. The separate lives they lead collide head-on into a tangled web of sex, lies, and DNA. As she helps her husband find an organ donor, Kassie uncovers a secret, forcing her to decide whose life to save: her husband’s or her own.

Interview
Where did you get the idea for the WHAT’S NOT series?
There are more than 85 million mature women in the United States alone, many of whom launched books like Bridget Jones’s Diary to fame and fortune in the 1990s. Today, those women are looking for stories about characters they can relate to. I created my main character, Kassie O’Callaghan, to do just that. Her struggles with her marriage, her mother, and her career are all issues many women experience themselves. Of course, we all respond to those challenges in our own unique ways.
Initially, I wrote What’s Not Said as a standalone book. It was only when my early readers asked, “What’s next for Kassie and Chris?” did I consider writing a series. Luckily, I could conceive of an ongoing saga, and thus What’s Not True was born.
If you weren’t an author, what would you be doing with your life?
If I wasn’t writing books, more than likely I’d spend my time reading and reviewing books. I am a published book reviewer for BookTrib.com, but I’m only able to review about six books a year for them. If I had more time, not only would I do that for BookTrib, but I’d also review more books, more often, and promote those reviews, along with those I’ve already done, on my website.
What’s on your to-be-read pile?
There’s a little bit of everything on the stack of books next to my bed, including:
- Caste by Isabel Wilkerson (timely and evocative)
- Afterlife by Julia Alvarez (a book club selection)
- The Maidens by Alex Michaelides (really enjoyed The Silent Patient)
- Where You Are Is Not Who You Are by Ursula M. Burns, Former CEO of Xerox (having worked at Xerox for ten years, I’d love to hear what Ms. Burns has to say)
- The President’s Daughter by Bill Clinton and James Patterson (I consider anything by Patterson fast, light reading)
What is the best advice you received about being an author?
“Write your next book,” is probably the best advice I’ve received as an author. At first, this seemed rather odd to me, since I’d intended only to write one: What’s Not Said. But once readers started asking for a sequel, I understood the advice I’d been given. Trouble is, being a published author is a 24/7 career. I never expected that. In fact, I had absolutely no idea what path my life would take once I wrote my first “The End.” What I learned is that it’s just the beginning.
When will the third book in the WHAT’S NOT Series be published?
Since I’m just a quarter of the way into drafting the manuscript, chances are I’ll send it to the publisher in early 2022. Then a date will be set. I’m not rushing through the writing of the last book in the series because I’m committed to making it as good as, or better than, the first two. How often with movies, or even series books, people say the first movie/book was the best. My goal is for readers to say that the entire WHAT’S NOT Series is well worth a read!
