Right after Thanksgiving is the busiest time of year for Santa and his crew of eight famous reindeer! Every year, the Famous Eight sleigh team from the North Pole eagerly helps Santa by going on a quest to find kids who believe in Christmas magic. In Santa’s Magical Reindeer: Becoming Pen Pals, Prancer, Vixen, and Dasher go on an adventure in search of eager pen pals. On their journey, they find three rambunctious girls who eagerly exchange letters with them and become lifelong friends.
Three of Santa’s reindeer, Prancer, Vixen, and Dasher, add something a little extra to their sleigh experience. They write letters to select kids who believe in Santa. This year they search together for a family and decide on three sisters in Pennsylvania. Thus the exchange of letters begins after the reindeer leave each girl a note.
My Concerns
For me, the thing that makes this book unique is the pen pal aspect. I’d like the definition of pen pal to have been added somewhere in or after the story. (Is it different than writing a letter and getting one in return? Are all letter-writer’s called pen pal’s?) The attempt to spark that interest was included, but to make a nice book impressive, it needed to offer more pen pal information at the back.
Final Thoughts
This is a colorful book that incorporates writing letters or even drawing. It also shows a friendship bond between the reindeer and children and the happiness each side feels.
Santa’s Magical Reindeer: Becoming Pen Pals is an entertaining story with several messages.
