A New Series

An FBI Profiler Romantic Suspense Thriller Series

ABOUT THE BOOK

Ex-FBI profiler River Ryland still suffers from PTSD after a case went horribly wrong. Needing a fresh start, she moves to St. Louis to be near her ailing mother and opens a private investigation firm with her friend and former FBI partner, Tony St. Clair. They’re soon approached by a grieving mother who wants them to find out what happened to her teenaged son, who disappeared four years ago. River knows there’s almost no hope the boy is still alive, but his mother needs closure, and River and Tony need a case, no matter how cold it might be.

But as they follow the boy’s trail, which gets more complicated at every turn, they find themselves in the path of a murderer determined to punish anyone who gets in his way. As River and Tony race to stop him before he kills again, an even more dangerous threat emerges, stirring up the past that haunts River and plotting an end to her future.

After finishing Cold Pursuit I checked out other reviewers and found that I’m definitely in the minority, since this really didn’t work for me. Though the concept sounded quite interesting and the prologue grabbed by attention, it just didn’t cause me to want to continue turning the pages.

The idea of ex-FBI profiler River Ryland moving to be next to her mother and opening a private investigation firm with her former FBI partner quickly piqued my interest. So why didn’t it work for me? I’ve tried to analyze it, and I believe the two MCs didn’t show the traits I’d hoped FBI would display. And, though I read lots of Christian fiction, the theme nearly screamed at me throughout this story. It felt interjected everywhere possible.

Again, I’m definitely the minority with my rating, so I’d suggest you give Cold Pursuit a try. I just didn’t quite click with this writing style. But for those who do, the last few pages have a mysterious person showing up who will open the way for a second book.

My thanks to Bethany House for a #gifted copy to review.
