My Thoughts

If you, like me, are inspired by a good memoir, you won’t want to miss this awesome book. Author Monica Kelsey shares a story that is almost guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings.

The title, Blessed to have been Abandoned, gives the reader a hint as to where the story might head, but only a hint. When Monica becomes a teenager she decides to search for some answers regarding her birth since she was aware at an early age that she was adopted. But what she uncovers isn’t what she had spent her early years daydreaming about.

Like many stories you’ve either read or seen on television, Monica comes to a touching crossroad where emotions can take over. It’s just a matter of what direction she will allow them to take her.

The pages started flying the minute I began reading. The story unfolded in such a beautiful manner that I kept saying, just one more page.

I highly recommend this short but exceptionally worthwhile story. I can’t imagine that you’ll be disappointed.

Monica Kelsey is the founder and Executive Director of Safe Haven Baby Boxes, a 501c3 non profit whose mission is to prevent infant abandonment and give mother’s in crisis a safe, legal and completely anonymous option of surrendering their unharmed newborn. Monica’s personal story of being abandoned at birth by a teen mom who had been raped and hidden away for her entire pregnancy propelled her to speak on behalf of babies like herself as well as her birth mother who desperately needed a safe option. Monica is also a firefighter/paramedic and knows first hand how important first responders are to state Safe Haven laws.
