My Thoughts
I absolutely love book mail, don’t you? Last week I shared my review of Sommer’s book Animals at the Office. If you didn’t see it, you’ll want to check it out. And now I’m excited to share her other book, The Goose on the Roof.
Isn’t the title so cute? And of course, the book cover called out to me immediately. I couldn’t wait to get started reading it.
The first thing I noticed was that the colorfully illustrated story is told in verse. It seems one young girl has a very big problem. What? Why of course there’s a goose on her roof, and he won’t go away.
Now a goose on the roof wouldn’t have to be an enormous problem, but this silly goose honks and squawks way too much of the time. In fact, the next-door neighbors are complaining since they have guests.
So the little girl asks for help from some of the neighborhood animals. Aw, but it seems the animals do nothing but complicate her goose problem. Will she ever be able to get that silly goose off the roof?
Kids should be mesmerized, then full of laughter, as they watch each animal attempt to help and then the funny situations that result.Â
The story can be taken as totally entertaining, or it can open discussions regarding creative thinking and the best ways to problem-solve.
