My Thoughts

The first book in this series starts off quickly and doesn’t slow down. It’s full of action, interesting characters, and even a mystery.

Let’s start with that head-scratcher mystery. Madison, one of the two Marshal’s assigned to accompany two high-profile prisoners across the country by plane, gets a black rose each year on the anniversary of her husband’s death. What does it mean? Who knows. But this year she finds the rose inside her house. Now that’s really getting creepy. This little unsolved mystery manages to wind itself throughout the main plot.

The main plot involves U.S. Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn who are introduced to each other and asked to accompany the transfer of two prisoners by air from Seattle to Denver.  This should have been a fairly easy assignment. But when the plane has problems and crashes, the two Marshals are left with dead pilots and one dead prisoner. The two assess the damages and quickly realize that one prisoner has left the plane.  They also learn that there is no way to communicate with anyone from where the plane went down.

The main characters in this novel are Marshals Madison and Jonas, who are both easy to like. Their cat and mouse chase with the escaped prisoner, which comprises most of the book, is easy to visualize.

I am certainly not a fan of cliff-hangers, but the one at the end of this book didn’t worry me. The only thing left unsolved was regarding the black rose. That will cause us to rush to pick up the next book in the series.

What Concerned Me

My concerns were extremely small, yet I try to report them, small or large.

The small plane experiences rough weather and is thrown around some. Then it drops some and without any previous communication the pilot announces,

“Please prepare for a crash landing.”

It felt abrupt and totally without warning. I would have been happy with a little more information.

Then directly afterward the dialog between Josh and Madison felt unnatural and off.

Another thing that went without explanation, unless I missed it, is how the prisoner was able to get out of shackles and handcuffs after leaving the plane.

What I Liked

This was fast-paced and had likable characters. It is a series that I will for sure be following.

My thanks to The Revell Reads Blogger Program for a copy of this book. This has not influenced the content of my review, which is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Very Good Story
