My Thoughts

The cute animals on the cover of Journey To A New Earth caught my eye immediately. And Zuzana Svobodova didn’t let me down. The beautiful illustrations continued throughout the book.

This is a story of friendship, connectedness, awareness of surroundings, and preservation of what is loved. The text and illustrations blend together nicely as they present this message. Yet the good part is that it never feels didactic. On the other hand, because it is subtle, it may not be clear enough for children to comprehend. Either way, it provides a wonderful platform for discussions, which would clear up that problem.

My Concerns

My immediate concern was the length of the sentences and some of the words themselves. Several of the sentences felt long even for adult books, and a few of the words likely wouldn’t be in a child’s vocabulary.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the story offers a very good message that is worth sharing with children.

Q:  Where do you draw your inspiration from?

A: My daughter and my son. Practicing peaceful and confident parenting, I aim to motivate and inspire children to re-ignite their already existing inner light.

Q: If you had to describe Penelope Panda’s character in three words, what would they be?

A: Cheerful, Kind, Loving.

Q: What was your favorite part of the self-publishing journey?

A: Learning the entire publishing process which was very new to me and connecting with other self-published authors. I was humbled at how helpful and kind the self-publishing community is, and wish to be just as helpful to other upcoming authors.

Q: What was the least favorite part?

A: Hitting hurdles along the way. Yet overcoming them was very rewarding which turned out to be a positive experience as well.

Q: What do you like to do when you are not writing?

A: I like reading and meditating in the garden, be it during rain showers with the soothing sound of the rain, or on a Sunny day with calm blue skies.

I also love baking with my kids, spotting chameleons in the garden and watching them as they change color (yes, a strange pass time we don’t miss out on every day J ).
