Walk through Doors to the Past via a new series of historical stories of romance and adventure.

Underwater archaeologist Kayla Richardson is called to the Golden Gate Bridge where repairs to one of the towers uncovers two human remains from the late 1800s and the 1930s. The head of the bridge restoration is Mark Andrews, who dives with Kayla, and a friendship develops between them. But as the investigation heats up and gold is found that dates back to the gold rush, more complications come into play that threaten them both. Could clues leading to a Gold Rush era mystery that was first discovered during the building of the bridge still ignite an obsession worth killing for?

My Thoughts

Bridge of Gold is the third book in the Doors to the Past series. This takes place, as you might guess, around the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. And for those who love various timelines, it goes back and forth between the 1930s and present day. And not only does it jump back and forth, each timeline has various characters heading the chapters.

Each timeline unearths information about a shipwreck that was discovered near the bridge. But more importantly than it just being a shipwreck, it is one where gold was discovered. In many ways the 1930 story and present parallel each other with mystery and romance.

It might keep you checking the chapter headings to make sure you keep things straight, and for some it might take a bit to remember and place the characters where they belong.

What Concerned Me

I had in mind that this would cover more about the Golden Gate Bridge. And what was covered, which didn’t feel like a lot, didn’t have enough description for me to visualize their diving attempts. However, the author included information at the back of the book for those, like me, who might want to know more about the construction.

I had a hard time connecting with the characters, they just didn’t feel real. Even the romances felt like little more than words and dialog.

Unfortunately, this just didn’t hold my interest, and though I’m a complete fan of Christian fiction, this felt a little heavy handed in that category.

Final Thoughts

Though this didn’t work for me, and I personally won’t be recommending it, check other reviews. This contains mystery, death threats, romance and more. You’re likely to fall in love with it. After all, this is only one person’s opinion.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Rating

Rating: 3 out of 5.

It was okay, but I liked another book in the series better.
