Part of Your World #2

ABOUT THE BOOK

Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale. But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter.

And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan. Worse, he might be this fantastically funny and subversively likeable guy who’s terrible at first impressions. Because suddenly he and Bri are exchanging letters, sharing lunch dates in her “sob closet,” and discussing the merits of freakishly tiny horses. But when Jacob decides to give Briana the best gift imaginable—a kidney for her brother—she wonders just how she can resist this quietly sexy new doctor . . . especially when he calls in a favor she can’t refuse.

A novel of terrible first impressions, hilarious second chances, and the joy in finding your perfect match from “a true talent” (Emily Henry, #1 New York Times bestselling author).

Not too many rom-coms win me over, but this story offered a little bit of everything. It was humorous, romantic, and touching. And though I’d already marked donor on my driver’s license, the book even brought an awareness of the need for organ donations.

Unfortunately, ER Doctor Briana Ortiz gets off to a rocky start with the new hire, Dr. Jacob Maddox. She’s sure he’s after the promotion she feels should be hers, and he’s trying to overcome a personality that some don’t understand. Plus they are both recovering from breakups that left them feeling wounded.

These things, alone, caught my attention, but it gets even more interesting when Jacob and Briana scheme to make a family wedding more comfortable for Jacob to attend.

While there really wasn’t anything completely new to this type of story, the humor and variety of situations pulled it all together into a fun audiobook. And, of course, narrators Kyla Garcia and Zachary Webber did their part in bringing the story to life with their great timing and interpretation of Jimenez’s prose.

My Concerns

Though it wasn’t overdone, I’m happier when sex is left to the imagination.

Final Thoughts

Jimenez took relatively nothing new in the romance department, and yet she managed to mix the pieces and parts all together and come up with a delightful balance. Compassion, humor, disappointment, love, illness, and everything in between.

If you’re a fan of romantic comedy, you won’t want to miss this. It’s fun, yet it has very meaningful themes that run throughout the book. In fact, it was those themes, and the reactions of others, that ultimately won me over.
