A Touching Story

That You Won’t Want To Overlook

WHAT IT’S ABOUT

Masterfully blending elements of psychological suspense and true crime, Jessica Knoll—author of the bestselling novel Luckiest Girl Alive and the writer behind the Netflix adaption starring Mila Kunis—delivers a new and exhilarating thriller in Bright Young Women. The book opens on a Saturday night in 1978, hours before a soon-to-be-infamous murderer descends upon a Florida sorority house with deadly results. The lives of those who survive, including sorority president and key witness, Pamela Schumacher, are forever changed. Across the country, Tina Cannon is convinced her missing friend was targeted by the man papers refer to as the All-American Sex Killer—and that he’s struck again. Determined to find justice, the two join forces as their search for answers leads to a final, shocking confrontation.

A Talk With Jessica Knoll

This was a captivating story that was hard to stop listening to. It was beautifully written, and the various narrators did a wonderful job of bringing it to life.

In 1978, Pamela Schumacher, who was attending Florida State University, ended up being the sole witness when a vicious killer entered her sorority house. Two of her friends end up dead, two are disfigured, and Pamela is mentally scarred.

From there, the book covers different timelines, as well as the story of Ruth Wachowsky. It was hard to stop listening to, and it was presented in such a unique way.

Though it’s rather obvious that this is the story of Ted Bundy, the author chose to leave his name out of the book and give more attention to his victims. I loved the direction this novel took. Too often, the bad guys get way too much attention.

Knoll sets about dismantling every last Bundy myth with a controlled but palpable rage. I already loved how she writes, but this book is extraordinary. Genuinely can’t rememeber the last time a novel moved me so much. Don’t miss it.

My Concerns

Though this is more of a slow-burn story, as an audiobook, it didn’t concern me in the least. However, it might bother some readers.

Final Thoughts

If you like true crime, mysteries, and even sisterhood through events, don’t miss this fictional look through the lens of true crimes. Knoll will win you over quickly with her writing style. And the narration won’t disappoint in the least.
