Benny Basilworth makes connections. A rare intellect, he sees things that others don’t see and draws conclusions that others completely fail to grasp. He has the kind of mind that can make a person a national sensation on the television game show “The Connection Game”– and the kind of mind that can be the target of predators.
Despite his brilliance, Benny and his family find themselves destitute, living in a basement apartment with one tiny window that affords them only the view of the feet of passersby on the street above. It is from this vantage point that Benny once again starts making connections. Mad, inconceivable connections. Connections that can change lives . . . and turn the entire world upside down.
Humorous, surprising, wise, and remarkably perceptive, The Connection Game is a novel unlike any other and one that you are unlikely to forget.

The Hypnotic Rhythm Of The Passing Feet
SS Turner
Here’s a question you won’t often be asked… Have you ever stared at passing feet and allowed yourself to become hypnotized by them? I have… when I foolishly chose to live in a dark basement flat as a means of saving rent in London’s famously expensive property market. I’ll never forget standing on tippy toes soon after moving into that flat and watching the passing feet walking past my ridiculously small window. Just as the Basilworths experience in my novel, The Connection Game, I was transfixed by the hypnotic motion of those passing feet on the street above.
How strange, I hear you say. Why would anyone be interested in passing feet? For starters, from a distance the walking motion can appear rhythmic, cyclical, even beautiful in its own way. But I think what makes passing feet fascinating is that even though those feet are attached to humans, they are also markedly different from humans. While humans are emotional, feet are functional. They’re focused on connecting with the ground to transport their owners to wherever they’re going. While humans are talkative, feet are silent. And while humans rarely share their truths with the world at large, feet do, whenever they leave the house. In fact, you’d be surprised how much feet give away. They betray all sorts of facts about their owners without their owners realizing it. For example, they’ll often reveal whether their owner is in a rush, where they’ve been, where they’re going, even what is going through their owner’s mind as they walk. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
As you can tell, the passing feet play a huge role in The Connection Game. Once the Basilworths are hypnotized by the passing feet, they become obsessed with using the data they learn from the feet to solve the mysteries Benny Basilworth believes are lurking outside their window. Do the passing feet provide the answers the Basilworths are craving? Let’s just say they take the whole foot-watching concept in a direction no one could have foreseen, including the passing feet…
