Description
FINLAY DONOVAN IS KILLING IT…except, she’s really not. The new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head.
When Finlay’s overheard discussing the plot of her new novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet…and she soon discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart.

My Thoughts
Is it possible that a misunderstanding can go from bad to worse? Ask Finlay Donovan and you’re apt to get an immediate nod and verbal confirmation. Finlay is a struggling author with writer’s block, divorcee with two children, and mom who just lost her nanny since her ex doesn’t feel she’s necessary. To make matters worse, Finlay is trying to exist on very little income. She definitely earns the title of stressed mom and writer.
But will things start looking up for her after she meets with her book agent at Panera?
As with any audiobook the narrator can really make or break it. In this case Angela Dawe came through with flying colors. I know I would have liked reading the book, but I can tell you I completely loved listening to it. Her voice for the nanny was perfect, and also her ability to convincingly use multiple voices with appropriate inflection. So thumbs up for narration.
As I began listening, I immediately thought of an old Bill Murray movie. If you remember The Man Who Knew Too Little, and liked it, you’re sure to like this story as well. Elle Cosimano created a witty story with fun dialog that’s perfect for relaxing and enjoying.
For me, the book was a mixture of a cozy mystery, chic lit, and a suspense novel, with plenty of humor thrown in.
My Concerns
My concern was very small, but I felt the story could have been a little shorter so that it didn’t drag down or repeat anywhere.
Final Thoughts
Humor is a very individual thing. I’ve read several humorous stories that didn’t do anything for me, yet other reviewers rated them quite high. And of course the opposite has happened too.
In this case, it definitely took suspension of disbelief, but it didn’t matter. It truly tickled my funny bone.
The nanny, read by Angela Dawe, was the character who won my heart.
I can’t wait for a follow-up book to come out. . . hmmm, as long as I’ve waited to read this, I’d better check, it might be out already. Teehee
I highly recommend the audiobook and I’ll be keeping author Elle Cosimano, and narrator Angela Dawe on my radar.
