My Thoughts
This beautiful story with captivating illustrations will melt your heart. I love that the story begins with monochrome illustrations, the exception being the sad, blue, cat. This reinforces that the world is rather bland in its one-color scheme that consists of different tones of black and white to the cat. Such a memorable thing for kids.
The story is told from the cat’s little girl’s point of view. The text, which is in verse, is easy to read and doesn’t feel forced. And as we see the little girl’s concern for her blue cat, grow, she also turns blue.
As things begin to change, after a visit to the vet, the story is emphasized with the addition of color to the illustrations.
This is a wonderful book that can open several topics for discussion.
Sometimes being down can feel contagious. And even though you try hard, you won’t always have the answers. Teamwork can help. And answers can be eye-opening.

Final Thoughts
This is a book kids will continually reach for. The story is meaningful, and the illustrations are ones that will be remembered.
An easy thumbs-up. It is one that needs to find its way into your library.
