The Judy Moody Series
Book #15
Description
Books, books, books! Judy’s got books on the brain as she prepares for a totally RARE trivia competition. Has reading always been this exciting?
Judy Moody is in it to win it. Win the Book Quiz Blowout, that is. Judy and her brother, Stink, are two-fifths of the Virginia Dare Bookworms, and they’ve been reading up a storm to prepare for Saturday’s face-off against second- and third-grade readers from the next town. Judy’s trying out all kinds of tactics, from hanging upside down like Pippi Longstocking to teaching herself to speed read The Princess in Black, and Stink has fashioned a cape of book trivia sticky notes to help him remember all the penguins in Mr. Popper’s Penguins. But when Judy, Stink, and their fellow teammates discover the other group has a fourth-grader (no lie!), they get a bit nervous. Are the Bookworms up to the challenge?

My Thoughts
I immediately feel in love with a couple of things as I was reading this book. First, I always like to see a brother and sister working together on a project. And secondly, anyone who is an avid reader will like to see the references to some well known older books.
As you might have guessed by the title, Judy is about to test her knowledge and memory. The Virginia Dare Bookworms, a team consisting of Judy, her little brother Stink, and three others are hard at it. They are determined to win the Book Quiz Blowout that’s being held at the local bowling alley.
In preparation, the team has been reading books like crazy. But reading isn’t enough, they will have to remember the details of the stories. Judy Moody tries everything she can think of that might help. She even hangs upside down like Pippi Longstocking in order to learn to speed read. Stink has created a cape with sticky notes all over it to help him remember.
But one of the classmates who is acting as the reporter for this event brings the Bookworms some distressing information. After interviewing the opposing team she has learned that they have a fourth-grader on their side.
My, oh, my. Judy’s team is really nervous now. They are reading on the bus, in the evening, and attempting to read at the dinner table. Will they be up for the challenge?
Reynold’s illustrations are placed throughout the book, making it even more interesting for young readers. And for older readers, well, the books the teams are being quizzed on should bring memories and smiles.
My thanks to #CandlewickPress and #NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book. I appreciate being able to post my opinion.
What Concerned Me
Nothing at all.
What I Liked Most:
Though it’s a wonderful story on its own, I like that subliminally (for most kids) it demonstrates how much fun reading is.
The story moved at a good pace and managed to hold my interest. And I loved the references to older books and the questions that were asked at the quiz. I even found myself trying to answer the quiz questions.
All and all, it’s a great chapter book!
