I Love This Series Already!
This odd couple return in their second book. We see these neighbors waking up in completely different ways. Duck has an alarm clock as a framed picture over his bed. He also has an I “heart” Bear cup and is reading 101 Walks to take with BEARS. He is obviously planning a fun-filled day for the two.
In the next door house, Bear is looking happy with a hot drink, a flower in a vase, a comfortable chair, a journal, and a stack of books. What a perfect setting for any book-loving-introverted-person (or bear)!
The happy duck knocks on Bear’s door.
“Bear! It’s Duck! From next door! Open up! C’mon, buddy!”
Bear looks a bit dismayed.
“What is it, Duck! I’m busy.”
But the excited neighbor won’t leave it at that. We see Duck peeking through the window in the door.
“You don’t look busy! Besides, we’re going for a walk, friend. No arguments, Chop-chop!”
The illustration shows Bear trying to hide behind his chair, but alas, it appears to be too late. He’s obviously been spotted by Duck. Looks like he will be taking a walk with his friend after all.
The walk doesn’t turn out to be exactly what Duck hoped for. When Duck asks questions, Bear responds with total honesty.
“Take a look around, Bear! Who wants to be alone on a day like this!”
“Me.” Bear responds.
When this one-sided talk continues, Bear finally tells Duck that he needs a little quiet time. With that, he heads to a nearby tree and falls asleep. But where does that leave our extrovert?
“I’m bored already.”
Is there any hope for this morning adventure to have a happy ending?
My Thoughts
What Concerned Me: Nothing
What I Liked Most: To be honest, I have no idea how much children will relate to or enjoy this series, but I absolutely love it. Maybe it’s because I see the humor of the extrovert and introvert friendship.
Even though kids no doubt won’t understand the labels for each personality, they should chuckle at this complicated friendship.
Not only are the stories cute in this series, but the illustrations completely push these books up to my favorites category.
If you’ve read this book, or series, to children, I’d love to hear their reaction.
