Agnew, a small farming community in south-central Texas, has just been
obliterated in the nation’s worst rail accident in history. The
President of the United States enlists cybersecurity expert, Mike Paxton, to lead the investigation and determine who is to blame.

As Mike seeks to uncover the truth behind the attack, more weapons of mass destruction are unleashed across the country in what appears to be an attempt to eradicate western society. Those who survive are forced into a
near-apocalyptic existence: transportation, manufacturing, agricultural, and oil industries crumble, and economic collapse devastates America.

With time and resources running out, Mike must discover the cruel forces at play. Are these violent attacks merely a ploy to preoccupy the American government so a larger, global plan can be carried out without the threat of
intervention by America’s powerful military defense? Will Mike and his team be able to stop them before it’s too late? Or will the United States lose all hope of maintaining its status as the most powerful country in the world?

Interview

  1. Tell us about your current release

Domestic Violence, a thriller, is born out of the forces that led to 9/11. That attack represents guerilla warfare taken to the extreme. Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda demonstrated how a minor assailant could engage and sustain a world power in long-term conflict on their terms

After a series of attacks that annihilated a quarter of a million people and endeavored to destroy the transportation, petrochemical, and oil and gas infrastructures of the entire nation, Mike Paxton, a cybersecurity expert is asked by the President to spearhead our country’s efforts to identify and bring to justice those responsible. His rhetorical response: How does one find a common thread when searching for the electronic footprints of people you do not know, in places you have never been, and left behind by smart men and women who took great pains to conceal them? He promises dogged persistence in the collection of the bits of data that will come from literally tons of physical evidence left in the wake of these hideous crimes. He also vows to employ every possible resource at his disposal, from the support of an international group of world class hackers whose trust he has already earned, to the off-beat use of honeybees to help sniff out storage lockers which may have been used as explosive depots for the nationwide chain of destruction.

  1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I didn’t want to be a writer as much as I wanted to tell a story. I got the idea as I thought about 9/11 and how a small cadre of educated, well-financed, religious fanatics murdered nearly three thousand people and changed our lives forever. They attacked the core of our national culture: the World Trade Center-our financial system and our leadership position in the global economy, the Pentagon-seat of the most highly trained and well-equipped armed forces in the world and, had it not been for a small team of brave civilians willing to sacrifice themselves, the seat of our national government in Washington, D.C.

In a nutshell, 9/11 represents guerilla warfare taken to the extreme. Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda became embedded in our collective memories. They demonstrated how a minor assailant could engage and sustain a world power in long-term conflict on their terms.

Still, large sections of our country were not directly impacted. What would happen if they were?

  1. Have you published any other books?

This is my first work of fiction. I began scientific and medical writing forty plus years ago.

  1. What can we expect to see from you in the future?

I’m torn between following this story in time and developing the prequel –Star Wars like. So much happens every day moving forward in how countries interact, sabotage, and attack each other for Mike to work on next. But, an appreciation of the forces that drove the founders of the money exchange systems that provided the accumulation of funds necessary for the attack on America and its aftermath would reveal lots of motives and address whether motives can transfer down generations like hatred can.

  1. What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

Spend time with my sons and four grandkids.

  1. Did you learn anything from writing your book?

Yes. A well written book does not happen in vacuum. It takes the help and support of many. And, the majority of the world’s developed countries are susceptible to a small group of very smart, well financed people that could attempt to impose their will on others.

  1. Some writers have something playing in the background, do you and what?

I’m a little confused by this. Do I have an ulterior motive? No. Do I have an underlying message, Yes. It is that pride leads to vulnerabilities. Do I like to listen to music while I write? No. I am frequently off in my own little world. Sometimes I write it six or seven times before I type it.

  1. What is something that not many would know about you?

I grew up in Los Alamos, New Mexico. A town built to build a bomb to end the war. Nuclear bomb air raid threats were taken seriously and our town practiced citywide evacuations once a year. It was quite a challenge with only one real way in and out of town and it was a two lane road.

  1. What do you hope your writing brings to your readers?

A sense that every side has a story and the many good things about our country should never be taken for granted.

Thanks so much for sharing some fun and interesting things about yourself. I look forward to reading your book. ~Debbie
