Author interview
Your book is called Kip the Letter X. What’s with the title?
The main character of the book is literally the letter X from the alphabet. The book, written for kids under 8, focuses on the dangers of comparing yourself to someone else, or trying to be someone you are not.
Did you self-publish, or do you have a publisher?
I actually have a publisher, Full Cycle Publications. They are a smaller publishing company but do a lot of extras for authors that the large companies just don’t have the time to do. Have I gotten rich? Nope. Not too many children’s authors are. 😊
Is your book available digitally?
The publisher is working on making the e-book version available and it should be available within the next week or so! I love ebooks because they are so much more portable and less easy to lose.
Will your book ever be made into an audio book for kids?
That’s an awesome idea! So far no one has approached me, but I think because of the subject matter it would make a GREAT children’s audiobook. But then again, I’m biased.
What do you dislike the most when you read a book?
I love to read mysteries when I get a chance, and I really dislike when the author doesn’t leave enough clues for the reader to figure it out along with the character.

When her eldest son was a toddler, Nabila used to entertain him with made-up stories about a boy who traveled the world inside a live green egg that just so happened to be an alien from another planet. She turned the tales into a colorful children¹s graphic novel series, Spartan and the Green Egg, with the intention of introducing children to environmental and cultural themes around the world.
A portion of all proceeds from the Spartan and the Green Egg book series, toys and accessories is donated to The Children for Peace ONLUS. Based in Italy, this non-governmental organization helps young people worldwide who are living in challenging circumstances obtain their essential needs such as food, medical help and educational opportunities. Nabila currently lives in New York and has two sons.

Author Interview
What made you decide to write a children’s book?
Actually, my husband overheard me telling our son, Spartan, a bedtime story about his favorite toy (a green egg) and later remarked that I should make it into a book. I took his advice and five books later the series is going strong.
What advice would you give to aspiring children’s book authors?
Don’t look to get rich on it! I think if you go into the whole process with an eye on making money, then the joy and creativity are stifled. The children’s book market is very competitive. Do it because you feel you have something to offer families and children, and because you want to do it for the sake of having done it.
What’s the oddest thing that’s happened to you on book tour?
So far the only book tours I’ve ever done have been done virtually, so other than a slow internet connection, I’ve not really had anything odd happen.
What do you hope children and their families take away from reading your books?
A greater appreciation for the larger world and the life on it, as well as developing a love of reading. I originally designed these to reach out to reluctant readers because as a graphic novel, it reads more like a comic book.
Are there more books in the series?
Books 1-5 are already out and are available both as hardback and ebooks. We have 10 books planned in the series, but there’s always room for more!
