My Thoughts
This is a very beautiful, yet unique book for children. I say unique because it steps away from the light-hearted picture book and enters the realm of a little deeper thinking.
Children will be led on a journey where the Sun and Moon meet for the first time. We learn that in the beginning the Sun brightened the earth but when it took a break it was completely dark. So the Sun searched for an answer.
When he found the Moon he knew they were meant to be together…and to work together. Why?
The Moon was the keeper of his night
And the Sun her golden key
Since they fell quickly for each other, the Moon and Sun got married and worked their magic in the universe.
Leo Hart’s illustrations are very pretty and the beautiful colors represent the universe in a relaxing way.
My Concerns
This may be out of your child’s range of understanding and the text doesn’t always flow in a natural way.
My Conclusion
This is a beautiful book that will speak to many children in various ways. However, it’s one that might possibly be better appreciated by older children.
My thanks to iRead Book Tours and the author for a copy of this book and the ability to write a review. Thank you so much for this opportunity.

Interview
Q: What inspired you to start writing?
A: I’ve always had an extremely vivid imagination, when I was younger I used to journal a lot and procrastinate schoolwork by writing stories about amazing places, poems, or reading a good book. I had a plastic ball that I would religiously bounce around the house non-stop throughout the day, and as I focused on that movement I would always dream up plots of faraway places and things and then rush to record them down on paper. When I was in my first year of college I was so in awe of the potential and possibilities that were available to me that I decided to take a chance and jump-start my career by sending a compilation of poems to publishing houses, little did I know I’d be picked up by one and get a deal for a trilogy. Now here I am working with Mascot Books to publish my 4th book!
Q: Why did you feel it was important to write a love story for children?
A: I think children are our future, and whilst love is always a key theme in how we educate the next generation, the stories I grew up around were very fairytale-like and introduced ideas to kids that I don’t necessarily agree with, especially the whole ‘damsel in distress’ act. I wanted to write a love story that had neutral characters like the Sun and the Moon, so that these characters could represent equality and be universally applicable, letting kids assign their connotations to a love that is true, but fair at the same time.
Q: Do you have any rituals when you write?
A: I wish I was the kind of writer that could say yes, but unfortunately I am a bit of a mess when I write. I often spread my thoughts onto paper as quickly as I can, which consists of having a folder in my ‘notes’ app on my phone ready. One of the writing quirks that I am infamous for from my trilogy is publishing my work with a ton of grammatical errors, this is because I want to preserve the integrity and intention of my writing and the emotions I felt as I wrote that piece down, and every mistake and nuance contributes to helping exude those feelings to my audience. I wrote ‘When the Sun Met the Moon’ in about 10 minutes in my college library instead of studying for the test I was meant to and almost turned it in to be published with my 2nd book, but one of the editors I was working with at the time told me how beautifully it would read as a children’s book and so here you have it today.
Q: What is your favorite children’s book?
A: This is the hardest question for me! Children’s books started my absolute love for reading and writing. I have quite a few I could recommend, obviously the classics like ‘Goodnight Moon’, ‘The Rainbow Fish’ and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. I also love my fair share of Seuss books. Then there was one which glowed in the dark about a haunted house that I loved, the Bernstein bears, a more obscure one: Mrs. Wobble the Waitress and my all-time favorite, The Jolly Postman series.
Q: Did you study writing at University?
A: I just recently graduated from the university last May from Northeastern in Boston, where I studied Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. I’m an entrepreneur now as a full-time job with three businesses, inc.ubator, a global consulting firm for young entrepreneurs, Statement, a denim supply line, and MOHLIA, a global business selling infinity roses sustainably and for affordable prices.
Q: What is the main lesson you would like kids to take away from this book?
A: I would love for kids to realize that love is sweet and romantic, gentle and kind but also secure and a partnership. That love can and does exist in all forms and between all beings. True love is loyal and patient but also takes a lot of hard work. Most of all, that someone that loves you should make you smile every day, should value you so much they would travel galaxies for you, and that if you love somebody they should be your equal.
