Book Title: Twin Tales: Alike and Different by Brielle and Nadia Dupervil
Category: Children’s Fiction (Ages 3-7), 28 pages
Genre: Children
Publisher: RiaJay Publishing
Release date: October 2021
Content Rating: G – Suitable for all readers.
Imagine having someone that is just like you in the world. Or what if there were not just like you, but everyone thought they were? Twin sisters Alexia and Denise might look alike on the outside, but they are very different on the inside. Join the sisters as they reveal what makes them unique. An enduring story of siblings who share a strong bond that parents will appreciate, and children will love.
My Thoughts
This is the sweet tale of twin sisters who happen to look alike. Denise and Alexia, the middle names of the sisters who get credit for writing this story, not only look alike but enjoy many of the same things. Yet, it’s no surprise that they also are unique.
The first part of the 28-page book shares their similarities, while the last shows their differences. The very last page sums the story up with advice for the readers.
I love that this opens up the opportunity for valuable discussions about being unique. And it certainly doesn’t have to be limited to twins or siblings, but all children.
The illustrations were very appropriate and more realistic than many. They definitely added a lot to the text.
My Concerns
I have one concern that kept this cute book from being rated higher.
Early on we are told that both girls
- “. . . lived in Mommy’s tummy at the same time . . . “
- “ . . . were born in the same year, on the same day.”
- “They have the same birthday!”
- “Being twins also means Alexia and Denise look alike.”
Here’s where my two nieces would have looked up at me and said, “But we are twins and we don’t look alike. How come?”
Good question, and one that could have easily been corrected by noting that the two girls in the book are identical twins if they are. And if not, then most fraternal twins aren’t usually that hard to distinguish, no more so that sisters.
Bottom line: this part of the book left me somewhat confused.
Final Thoughts
The idea presented in this story is well worth exploring and sharing with kids. The illustrations are above average and the little authors of this book are precious.
Be prepared for some twin questions, but don’t overlook this story.
My thanks to iRead Tours and the authors for a copy of this book. My review was not influenced by this gift.

Meet the Authors and Interview:
Brielle has a bold and bubbly personality and never meets a stranger. You can call her the life of the party because there is never a dull moment when she is around. Brielle is a curious conversationalist who will talk to anyone who will listen.
Nadia is a soft spoken, articulate, gentle spirit. Initially she is reserved, but once comfortable she will win you over with her contagious laughter and the silly jokes she keeps in her back pocket for the right time. Nadia is caring and always does what she can to help others feel better. She is very in tune with her emotions and very direct when expressing them.
Interview
How does it feel to be authors at such a young age?
It is really cool. Lots of people don’t believe us when we tell them that we are authors. The best part is we became authors before we even learned to read.
What was the hardest part about writing this book?
This was our first book, so we did not really know what to do when we first started. Our parents did a lot of the hard work and helped us through each step. We had to do a lot of work to decide how we wanted the characters to look, what type of pictures we wanted.
What was the best part about writing this book?
We were so excited when we go to hold the very first copy of the book in our hands.
Tell me about the characters of Twin Tales.
We are the characters. Nadia is Denise and Brielle is Alexia. Those are actually our middle names. When we first thought of writing the book, we knew we wanted to be in it. Using our middle names let us be in the book, but almost in disguise. Sometimes we even tell people to guess which one of us us is which character.
What is next for the Dupe Duo?
We have already started writing the next few books in the series. Now that we see how fun it is to be authors we want to write more and more. Hopefully the next book in the series will be ready to go to the editor within the next few months.
