About
When a man arrives at the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency, anxious to hire them to find a missing heiress, Eunice Holbrooke realizes her past has finally caught up with her . . . and that she may no longer be able to hide under the disguise that has kept her safe for so long.
Arthur Livingston’s goal in life is to make his mark on the world as a mining industrialist, but after the man who could help him achieve his goal is murdered, Arthur feels compelled to seek justice for the family–but he’s left with more questions than answers after the eccentric Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency refuses to take on his case.
Desperate to conceal her real identity and avoid the irritatingly handsome Arthur, Eunice takes on a different case that requires her to go deep undercover and entangles her in one troublesome situation after another. When other secrets come to light, Eunice has no choice but to confront her past, hopeful that it will set her free but knowing it could very well place her life–and the lives of those she loves–in jeopardy.
My Thoughts
I typically don’t read or review the last book in a series that I haven’t been reading . . . unless, in this case, I am blinded by the beautiful book cover and fail to spot that To Disguise the Truth is the last book in a trilogy. However, I’m certainly glad the beautiful cover caught my eye. I would have missed a delightful book.
Though the start might have been filled with backstory, at the time I didn’t realize it was referring to previous books. I just thought the first few pages covered things rather quickly. But I had no trouble jumping into the story or figuring out who the characters were.
And the characters came to life very quickly. So quickly that I’m now sorry I didn’t start with the first book in this series. That being said, the dialogue felt appropriate for each character, and it only took a few pages for them to pull me into the story.
Wanting to keep discovering and turning pages was never a concern.
My Concerns
How’s this for a crazy concern? I’m concerned that you might enjoy this book even more if you start with the first in the series, To Steal a Heart. Trust me, I think the characters and story make this a series you’ll want to follow.
My Final Thoughts
Yes. Yes. and Yes. Turano is able to keep the pages turning with her delightful characters and fun story that has some great twists, especially in the last half. If you’re looking for a book you can jump right into, one that will have you smiling at times yet has a subtle faith-based message gently woven in, this is it.
My thanks to Bethany House for allowing me to be part of their Influencer Team. I was in no way obligated to write a positive review.
