13 Principles For Living Boldly

Description

Courage Can Turn an Ordinary Life into an Extraordinary Adventure

Why do some people have the courage to make brave decisions and lead exciting, rewarding, and impactful lives while others only sit on the sidelines, watching enviously? Entrepreneur and adventurer Franziska Iseli believes that anyone can learn to unlock their inner courage and live an extraordinary life. Iseli decided to write a book about courage while on a multi-year motorbike journey around the world. All of that “helmet time” allowed her to ponder what so many people ask her about her businesses and daring international adventures: Where do you find the courage to do what you do? In this, her third book, Iseli shares her 13 principles for living a life of courage and breaking through any barriers or obstacles life throws your way. Embark on this exciting adventure with Iseli as you discover how to unlock the boundless courage and power within you. Here are a few of the amazing life lessons you’ll learn in this book:

  • Why courage is the most important life skill you need to learn (and yes, anyone can learn to develop more courage!)
  • The difference between being courageous and being fearless or reckless (and how to distinguish an impostor from the real deal)
  • How to expand your Courage Boundaries step-by-step so you can systematically grow your ability to take on new challenges and adventures in life
  • How to define the life you truly want to live, and a process you can follow for sticking to it (especially when things don’t go as planned)
  • How to develop an irresistible love for life that will draw people to you, and turn something that used to terrify you into an exciting call for adventure

Through her personal experiences and quirky sense of humor, Franziska Iseli will help you face everything life may throw at you with courage: from navigating past “poop showers” to making brave decisions without fear of what might happen in the future. Her fresh prose is not only a delight to read, but full of both insight and inspiration. This isn’t your typical personal development book. This is real, raw, honest, and full of practical life lessons from someone who is walking the walk and living a life of courage, meaning, and impact. Fans of Born to Shine by Ashley LeMieux, Untamed by Glennon Doyle, Daring Greatly by Brene Brown, and Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis will love this book.

My Thoughts

Where do I begin? This book offers so much. There were so many things to ponder, consider, and even attempt to implement in my life. For those who read with a highlighter, or even those who previously have considered it a crime to mark in a book (who me?), you’re going to want to keep one handy.

In 2018 Franziska Iseli challenged herself to ride a motorbike from where she lived in Switzerland, along the Silk Road and into Asia. Okay, you might think, that sounds challenging, but are you like me? Are you completely familiar with what that involved? And there’s more.

She was confident riding a bike, but could she repair one? Nope. Or even change a tire, or make it through waist-deep, freezing rivers? Hmm…are you still with me? This is sounding like a challenge that might land her, well, in a place she’d rather not get to so quickly. Now that I was understanding what she was challenging herself to, traveling a little over 7456 miles sounded very much like a challenge.

However, as I read on I was able to breath a half sigh of relief. When she shared her challenging plan with a friend she learned that he’d been thinking about embarking on the same journey. Yes! I thought. At least she’ll have someone along if she runs into trouble. And hopefully he can fix a bike and change a tire.

Right about now you might be deciding that you don’t need to be challenged at all. After all, you’re not planning to bike across any country too soon. But this book isn’t really about her journey as much as what she gleaned from the trip. So if you have any doubts, trust me, what she presents is absolutely worth reading.

The table of contents includes:

  • Stories
  • Truth
  • Intentions
  • Trust
  • Intuition
  • Love
  • Kindness
  • Imperfection
  • Non-attachment
  • Flow
  • Playfulness
  • Evolution
  • Commitment

Under Principle 3: Intentions I quickly located a passage to highlight (Okay, I didn’t actually say I highlighted it. But it is certainly worthy of it. And I’m actually working up to challenging myself to mark up a beautiful book.) :

When you set your intentions, push yourself a little bit. You will know you are staying too safe by the lack of butterflies in your stomach.

Well, that one hit hit home. I’d like to never ever feel butterflies? In fact, if I never feel them again, that works for me. Or does it, I wondered? You see what I mean? These simple sentences caused me to think.

And under Principle 9: Non-Attachment is another sentence that begged to be marked:

Letting go of a desired outcome is so powerful because it leaves very little room for fear to emerge.

She explains that letting go doesn’t mean not trying. And this can pertain to controlling behaviors, events, possessions and much more. She stresses that once you detach and stop trying to control the future, freedom will take the place of fear.

So by now I’m sure you are beginning to understand what the book is about. There are thirteen principles geared to help the reader expand boundaries. And what might be relevant for you, isn’t necessarily what impacts me. Iseli has a link included so that a free journal, The Courage Map, can be printed for you to record your personal journey.

There is also a small section at the end of each chapter that lists Travel Tunes. After all, can a trip be mapped out without music? Okay, music fans, I hope you’re good at humming your own tune to the positive beliefs that are the songs, or better yet, your mantra.

Next you will find Pit Stops. After the travel tunes there is a challenge with exercises.

And now’s the time to grab that Travel Journal that you hopefully printed. There are some questions to think about and answer. If you’re wondering what type of questions. Below is an example of a question listed at the end of Principle 2: Truth.

Is there anywhere in your life you feel like you are compromising your truth?

Folks, for me, this is a book that you can read completely through, or I’ve even opened it to a random page and started reading. It’s good any time, anyway. There are things to consider on each and every page.

Concerns

None come to mind.

My Conclusion

This is a wonderful book that offers so much. They are very sort segments that can be read quickly, so it even is perfect bedtime reading for the non-reader who falls asleep easily.

I highly recommend this easy-to-read, yet meaningful, book. And I found it perfect for the trying times we’re going through.

My thanks to TCK Publishing for a complimentary copy to review. They have never asked me to post only favorable reviews and ratings. And I always post my honest opinion.
