ABOUT THE BOOK
Sherlock Holmes meets the Wayside School in this Middle Grade supernatural sleuthing graphic novel about the Flick brothers – four siblings searching for explanations to outbreaks of supernatural strangeness and otherworldly weirdness in their Edwardian-era hometown.
A bump in the night? They’re on the case! At Strander House, things are…weird. There’s an ogre wedged in the closet, and you have to be careful not to slip on the leak coming from the ocean in the attic. What’s possibly weirder than the fact that you can walk into the bathroom and end up in next Tuesday are the four brothers who investigate these strange supernatural occurrences…the Brothers Flick!
Leo, Desmond, Remy, and Cub seek to get to the bottom of every shadow you swear you saw move. If they happen to stumble upon answers to the mysterious disappearance of their own family along the way, all the better.
For fans of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Gravity Falls, Whispering Pines, the Hardy Boys, the Winterhouse series, the Greenglass House series, and the Wayside School series!

What’s Being Said About The Book
“… the metaphor of “impossible doors” leading toward unending universes, where even the smallest changes reverberate, provides a unique framework for themes of grief and healing.” – Publishers Weekly
“…enjoyable.” – Kirkus
“… this graphic novel will attract mystery and adventure fans by the droves…” — Kirkus
“… a “Jonny Quest meets the Hardy Boys” vibe with a few modern twists…” — Kirkus
While the detailed illustrations caught my eye immediately, the story started off a little confusing. However, four short chapters later it all began to fall into place.
As I read this I kept thinking it was such a good graphic novel for reluctant readers who become overwhelmed by too many words on a page. And, of course, those like me, who just love fun graphic novels.
The Flick brothers live in an orphanage once run by their parents. Each of the brothers has a unique ability and each mourns the loss of their parents a little differently.
The mystery of the house keeps the boys busy trying to make sense of the happenings. And this will also keep the reader turning the pages.
As far as monsters, supernatural events, and scariness, don’t worry that it will be over the top for kids. This book is more about a fun adventure and family than a spooky tale.
Final Thoughts
This is a nicely illustrated graphic novel with a subtle message. Yet, these thoughts never overshadow the story, since it’s only presented toward the end.
It has just the right amount of unknowns, monsters, and odd happenings, to keep kids and comic-loving adults happy. So make some hot chocolate and enjoy!
My thanks to Rockstar Book Tours, the authors, and the publisher for a gifted copy to review.
