He Is On The Verge

Of A Medical Breakthrough,

But Facing A Dangerous Reality

WHAT IT’S ABOUT

Renowned neurosurgeon, Jon Ritter, is on the verge of a medical breakthrough that will change the world. His ground-breaking surgical treatment-using transplanted non-human stem cells-is set to eradicate the scourge of Alzheimer’s disease and give hope to millions.

But, when the procedure is slated for testing, everything comes to an abrupt and terrifying halt. Ritter’s colleague is gunned down and Ritter himself is threatened by a radical anti-abortion group that not only claims responsibility, but promises more of the same.

Faced with a dangerous reality, but determined to succeed, Ritter turns to a long-time colleague to conduct a clandestine clinical trial in Seoul, Korea. But after successful trials, Ritter and his allies are thrown into a horrifying nightmare scenario: the trial patients were murdered and Ritter is the number one suspect.

Aided by his beautiful lab assistant, Yeonhee Lee, Ritter flees the country and becomes the target of an international manhunt involving Korean Police, the FBI, zealous fanatics, and a coldly efficient assassin.

Dead End Deal is perfect for fans of Tess Gerritsen and Robin Cook. And because I’ve always loved medicine and medical mysteries, I was excited to have discovered a new author who writes this genre. I wasn’t disappointed.

Wyler delivered a  story that was fast-paced and full of energy.

Jon Ritter, a neurosurgeon, and his colleague are closing in on an enormous breakthrough for Alzheimer’s.  While it uses stem cells, they are non-human cells, so the creators don’t expect any negative feedback from the public. But when Ritter’s colleague is killed and Jon’s life is threatened, the program comes to an immediate stop.

Ritter and his lab assistant decide to leave the country in hopes of continuing their research and testing. But things don’t go as they’d hoped.

Not at all.

My Concerns

I was immediately distracted by the story being told in the third person and italics indicating the character’s thoughts. I did notice, however, that the last part of the book didn’t show as many.

It lacked character development, which would have helped so much in this fast-flowing story.

Though this is a small concern, the chase scenes were created beautifully, but I can only stay excited so long. They felt too long. But, again, this is a very small concern.

Final Thoughts

If you like thrillers this is one you won’t want to overlook. It’s a cat-and-mouse story that will keep you turning pages. Though the mystery isn’t a big one, the outcome will keep you guessing.

Thank you @therealbookgal, Stairway Press, and the author, Allen Wyler, for a #gifted copy.
