Can One Curious Woman Fit The Pieces Together?

Description

Focused on a career in medicine and not on romance, Willa Duvall is thrown slightly off course during the summer of 1865 when she discovers a never-opened love letter in a crack of her old writing desk. Compelled to find the passionate soul who penned it and the person who never received it, she takes a job as a nurse at the seaside estate of Crestwicke Manor.

Everyone at Crestwicke has feelings–mostly negative ones–about the man who wrote the letter, but he seems to have disappeared. With plenty of enticing clues but few answers, Willa’s search becomes even more complicated when she misplaces the letter and it passes from person to person in the house, each finding a thrilling or disheartening message in its words.

Laced with mysteries large and small, this romantic Victorian-era tale of love lost, love deferred, and love found is sure to delight.

My Thoughts

This is an author I haven’t read before, but one I will certainly be watching. The Love Note is an in-depth story that will quickly reel you in.

Willa discovers an unusual love note, no doubt forgotten, in an old desk. Why is it unusual? It is addressed only to Dear one and signed Warmly, your most affectionate and ardent admirer. The note immediately touches her heart. Who was the author? And who should have received this note?

Willa, who acts as a nurse for her father, has dreams of a medical career. Her traditional father, however, keeps pushing for his daughter to forget such nonsense. According to him, she needs to marry a man who can provide for her. Willa’s job is to prepare to run a household, not dream of running off to college.

Poor girl. Her dream seems far away and now the note she has discovered keeps niggling at her. Someone has missed out on knowing the author’s feelings. Willa might have a clue about the note, however. She just needs to confirm where the desk came from.

When an agreement is made with her father, Willa finds herself living at Crestwicke Manor. It is here that Politano begins weaving layer after layer into this story. The characters and story unfold in this direction and that. You will think you know where it is headed, but Politano will gently and believably take the story down another avenue. It will keep you enthralled and guessing.

Beautiful prose and characters that tell their stories honestly, will keep you reading late into the night. If you are interested in a Victorian-era tale that is laced with mystery and love reach for The Love Note.

My Concerns

Nothing comes to mind unless it’s the concern that Politano needs to be writing late into the night. Anxious readers are awaiting her next book.

What I Liked

Both the story and characters converged into a book that I will long be remembering. The subplots were intermingled seamlessly and never felt unbelievable or confusing.

I say bravo!
